Donate Time & Talent
If you are able to give monetarily to camp, it is deeply appreciated. Camp de Benneville needs monetary support from generous donors in order to stay in business and provide the wonderful programming that nurtures all of our hearts. However, there are many ways to give back to Camp whether or not you can afford to share your financial resources.
You can, for eample, participate in Work Weekends when they occur (usually in the Spring and Fall), become a camp counsellor, a workshop leader or even the dean of a camp. Perhaps you can think of other ways your unique talents can contribute to the well-being of camp. Our director is always willing to consider your ideas and vision.
Below are just a few of the possibilities for non-financial support of the Camp.
Being a camp counselor is an incredibly rewarding experience that provides numerous opportunities for personal growth and development. Here are some of the reasons you may want to assume this role:
Mentorship and Leadership: As a counselor, you’re not only guiding children through activities, but you’re also serving as a role model. The responsibility to positively influence young minds and help them grow emotionally and socially is deeply fulfilling.
Building Strong Relationships: You form close bonds with both the campers and your fellow counselors. These relationships can last well beyond the event, creating a strong sense of community and belonging.
Developing Key Skills: Counselors gain and refine essential skills like leadership, problem-solving, teamwork, conflict resolution, and communication. These skills are highly transferable to future careers and can be invaluable in many professional settings.
- Making a Positive Impact: You get the opportunity to make a lasting difference in the lives of young campers, teaching them important life lessons, boosting their confidence, and creating memories that may shape their future.
- Fun and Adventure: While being a counselor is hard work, it’s also filled with laughter, adventure, and moments of pure joy. Whether it’s playing games, singing around the campfire, or leading a hiking trip, there’s never a dull moment.
At most of the events at Camp de Benneville, workshops enrich the lives of the participants. But to offer meaningful experiences, we depend on the community of campers to offer (usually volunteer) their time and talent. If you have an area of expertise, a special interest, skill or talent, here are some reasons you may want to share your gifts with others:
- Make a Positive Impact: You’ll be able to make a real difference in people’s lives, whether it’s helping them gain new knowledge, develop skills, or spark creativity. The joy of knowing you’ve made an impact is one of the best rewards of leading a workshop.
- Challenge Yourself: It’s a great way to step out of your comfort zone and grow. You’ll be thinking on your feet, responding to questions, and adapting your approach to different learning styles—all of which are excellent personal growth opportunities.
- Satisfaction of Achievement: At the end of the workshop, the sense of accomplishment is huge. You’ll look back and see how much you’ve contributed, not only to the participants but to your own development as a leader and educator.
Leading a workshop is not just an opportunity to teach; it’s a chance to inspire, connect, and grow. If you’ve got the knowledge and the passion, step up and take the plunge—you might just surprise yourself with how much you enjoy it!
Becoming a camp dean is an exciting and impactful leadership role that comes with plenty of rewards, both for you and the entire camp community. Here’s why you should absolutely consider stepping into that position:
Make a Real Difference: As a camp dean, you’ll have the ability to shape the camp experience for everyone—staff, volunteers, and campers alike. Your leadership will help create a positive and memorable environment, ensuring that everyone has the best possible experience. It’s incredibly rewarding to know you’re directly impacting the camp’s culture and community.
- Create and Inspire a Team: As a camp dean, you’ll lead a diverse group of volunteers and staff, which means you’ll have a unique chance to inspire and mentor others. You’ll be creating a team that works together toward the common goal of making the camp experience as positive and impactful as possible for everyone involved.
- Be Part of Something Bigger: Camp is a special place, and as a dean, you’ll be at the heart of it. You’ll experience the joy of seeing campers make memories, learn new things, and form lasting friendships. It’s a deeply fulfilling role where you’re part of something that positively impacts lives.
Camp de Benneville Pine’s location, at 6,800′, is a challenging one for buildings, grounds and equipment. Winter weather and summer storms take their toll, as does just the passage of time. The Camp is in need of seasonal and year-round maintenance, and Camp staff just couldn’t keep up with it were it not for the generous donation of time and talent by our camper community.
If you have skills in the building trades or in vehicle maintenance, your participation is especially needed. But, there are many tasks that don’t require expertise, and can be equally rewarding and vital to the Camp’s survival. Raking leaves away from cabins can help with fire prevention, and help Camp to pass Forest Service inspections. Exterior painting can help to preserve our Camp’s facilities and beauty. Many hands and abilities are needed and there is always something that needs doing.
If you’re interested in helping Camp in this way, check the camp calendar for “Work Weekends”. Usually there is one scheduled in the Fall to get Camp ready for winter and another in the Spring to handle winter wear and tear, and get the Camp ready for the busy summer season. Volunteers are given free accommodations as well as delicious Camp food in exchange for their labor.
There may be other opportunities to help out with special special projects throughout the year , so stay tuned for any announcements.
